Turn RPG Store

Created by Brie Sheldon

Turn is a slice-of-life supernatural roleplaying game with quiet drama about shapeshifters in small, rural towns. Our Kickstarter funded at 207%, and we're on track to fulfill the core PDF content by March 2019 and the print content by May 2019. Find more details in our Kickstarter updates! Print orders are on hold while we complete our print run, after which we'll be available for print order on Indie Press Revolution!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Turn in the wild!
over 4 years ago – Wed, Oct 02, 2019 at 02:50:16 AM

Hi all!

So as you all know, we go tons of books in, and we've done the signing and packing bit...

Thinking while signing...
Getting that pen to paper!
PACKAGES!

And John has been thankfully taking those packages to the post office after we had many issues with our original postage plans. In fact, some are arriving with backers all around the world and in very good company. There are more books to ship, but we're working on it! I promise!

Also, I am getting in touch with James Mendez Hodes about the Thousand Arrows backers status, will update when I know what's up. We have been primarily focused on shipping and stretch goal layout - and that's not all!

So. Many. Packages.

John's launched his own Kickstarter! It's under our shared games label, Daedalum AP, and I'll also be working on it. The project is called Homunculus Assembly Line and it's actually in it's final weeks. John's thought up this amazing experimental art zine with a variety of other artists from the gaming scene and myself as a supplementary writer, doing the art first and the game design second. It's super exciting, and a very low buy-in at $10 for print!

We would love if you'd check out the Kickstarter and consider backing Homunculus Assembly Line. It looks like the art and design that will come out of it will be super rad and really different, so we'd love to share it with you!

As always, thank you for your support!

(Reply by 9/14) Big Bad Con & Signed Books
over 4 years ago – Fri, Sep 13, 2019 at 03:25:49 AM

Hi all!

So, we have the print books in house - woo! This is rad!

Signatures!

The first thing I want to note is that I actually intend to sign all of the books from this print run - this is something I creatively promised myself that I did with my previous project, Behind the Masc, that's very important to me. The first print run of my books, if it's at all feasible, gets a signature in every book. If there's a very special dedication you want in your book*, it's okay to message by September 14, 2019 (when we're packing books) and I will do my best to ensure it gets put in the book, but otherwise I will be signing simple, personal dedications in the books we mail out. If you catch me at an event, always feel welcome to ask me to add something extra - I LOVE signing! - and ask others who have contributed to the project as well like A.J., John, Cecilia, Alicia, or any of the stretch goal writers!

*I generally don't sign with people's names to avoid deadnaming, since Kickstarter does not always tell me your real names and instead tells me what credit card companies wants to tell me. It'll normally be signed something like "Thank you for all of your support, love, Beau" - we'll see where it goes after 500 copies!

Big Bad Con

With this in mind, I will be attending Big Bad Con in California October 10-13, and I will be able to do two important things:

  • bring a limited number of books with me to the convention, and
  • sign those books in person with personal dedications!

Here's the thing. If you want me to bring your copy to the convention directly, rather than shipping it to you (we plan to ship out ground shipping over the next week, so your books should reach you by Big Bad Con but I can't guarantee it), the cost of your shipping will account for my extra luggage fees & handling or the cost of shipping the book to the hotel & handling. Once the book is in your hands at the con, it's considered "delivered" and I'll check you off a list. I'll sign it for you how you'd like, and that's that!

What I will need from you is for you to direct message me on Kickstarter by September 14, 2019 noting that you want to get your book at Big Bad Con. I ask this on such short notice because we're packing books this weekend!

I don't think so many of you attending the con that we'll become overloaded with this, BUT if that becomes an issue, I'll do a quick update to close submissions. I hope you do understand - I'm only one person and have a bunch of responsibilities at the con, but I do want to engage with you, my supporters, while I can!

One Last Thing - Keepsakes!

The final thing I want to note is that I will be taking the first proof of Turn, which had some printing errors, to Big Bad Con. I've decided to keep the book as a keepsake and have it signed by everyone (within ability) who helped me make Turn a reality, and you all are part of that! I will have it with me throughout the weekend at Big Bad Con, and if you catch me when I'm free, you're welcome to sign it!

My only note is that I will be unavailable to sign / have people sign during a few periods. On Thursday night I run the Soda Pop Social - I'm co-hosting with Meguey Baker & co. this year! - and while I will have my copy on me, I won't be able to take time away from hosting to sign/have signing. I also have a Tell Me About Your Character shift that night. The rest of my weekend is similar - a panel on Friday, and a Ranger shift, then two games on Saturday. BUT! My mornings/early afternoons are mostly open. Here's my schedule for reference!

Busier than I expected, for sure.

Before I forget...Want to play Turn at Big Bad Con?

There are two games of Turn at Big Bad Con - one run by Jess, who is great, and one run by Jerry, who is also great! You can find Jess's game here at this link and Jerry's game here at this link - I endorse both of them and they've both talked to me a lot about Turn before taking it to the con table, so I am thinking they'll do a great job. I am not running this year as my recovery from my brain injury combined with my existing anxiety issues just doesn't make me the best Town Manager, and my players deserve better. So give them a shot!

I think that's it for now. Don't forget to send me a message through Kickstarter by 9/14/19 if you want to pick your book up at Big Bad Con or have a special dedication you want in your book, and also, keep in mind there's still Bison community copies available so fill out the form here and share it with your marginalized friends, community centers, and libraries!

Thank you all again so much for your support! This is so awesome to have be real and happening! I can't wait to pack up books this weekend to send to you all!

Best,

Beau & the Turn team

BOOKS!

Thank you all for your support through this project! Soon, coming to those print backers, will be copies of Turn! They arrived today and we can't wait to get them out.

The shipment when it arrived on our doorstep.
Thor guarding the books and loving the pallet.
Beau got a little emotional.
A tearfully happy Beau with the boxes of Turn books.

Big Bad Con & the first Proof
over 4 years ago – Mon, Sep 02, 2019 at 11:03:52 PM

Do you want to be part of my keepsake for Turn & sign the first proof at Big Bad Con? Look for me at the convention and I'll always have the first proof with me for you to sign with YOUR signature, & I'm going to keep this copy for me to remember this project forever. Storytime!

As you know, Turn has printed and we're waiting for the payment to process before they ship the boxes of books to my house. Whew! During printing, there was a slight printing error but it was manageable, & Perfection Press was really amazing about it, so the final books look amazing. The proofs are awesome! The earliest proof they sent me before some corrections were made has a few errors in the printing, things are clipped and needed adjusted to account for the printer software error. But the thing is, I still cried when I looked through it.

The book was still so beautiful! Cecilia & John's art was so perfect. A.J.'s poetry looked gorgeous and perfect. My words were still there on the page - my first book with an ISBN with my name on the cover, my biggest game book, six years in the making. Imperfections? Whatever!

All of you helped me make this! The final product is now pristine - it looks perfect & wonderful. It is EXACTLY what I wanted it to be. While it has been a rocky road, & I'm still struggling every day with this awful depression, knowing you supported me has been so amazing.

If you're at Big Bad Con, please feel free to look me up while I'm there to sign the book! If there's no way you can get to sign it, feel free to send a note and just let me know if there's something you'd like to write in it and on what page! <3 Thank you all so much!
